Maslovo Forest Residence

Moscow Region, Russia
A 700 m² house set within a dense pine forest. The plan was shaped entirely by the existing trees — the layout follows the logic of the landscape, stepping around trunks and preserving the woodland as found. No tree was removed; the forest determined the geometry.
The programme brings together four bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, working kitchen, and a fireplace room. The pitched roof is a direct response to the site: pine needles accumulate on flat surfaces and block drainage, making a sloped roof the only practical and honest solution in this environment.
Materials dissolve the boundary between building and forest. Barn-board timber cladding, natural stone, and metal finished in the colour of pine bark allow the house to recede into its surroundings. Panoramic glazing throughout completes the inversion — the interior opens fully to the landscape, and the forest becomes the interior.
